Resources for Children with Special Needs, Inc., shares knowledge and support to empower parents and other New Yorkers who care about young people with disabilities. Founded in 1983 by three moms who were looking for resources for their children, Resources has grown to be the premier source for knowledge and help with systems, programs and services affecting people from birth through age 26 with disabilities in New York City. Resources is an independent, non-profit organization that provides services to families and professionals in all five boroughs. Services include: helping families to understand and negotiate the educational and other child- and family-service systems; information for families and professionals; publications and a comprehensive searchable database of schools, services and other supports for young New Yorkers with disabilities; training and workshops in English and Spanish for families, professionals and community organizations; community events, such as the annual Camp Fair, to connect people and resources; systems advocacy to improve educational and social opportunities and outcomes for young people with disabilities; and consultation and training services. Resources is a federally funded Parent Training and Information Center and a NY State funded NYC Parent Center. From October through June, Resources offers its free series of 51 workshops for parents and professionals in all five boroughs. Call today or visit the Web site to learn more about all the services and programs at Resources.
